How it all started
It all started with a bar of soap. And a goat.
Way back in the 90s, two friends from Montreal decided the world would be a whole lot softer if more people washed with soap made from fresh goat’s milk.
Thus began the creation of Canus Goat’s Milk Skin Care and in just a few short years, their original triple-milled bar grew into the second largest selling soap in all of Canada. The success of the Canus product line grew steadily, reaching international markets. In 2000, the duo introduced the Canus goat’s milk soap bar to the U.S. market and opened offices in Vermont, establishing its American headquarters.
For years, consumers throughout Canada and the United States have grown to love and value the fresh goat’s milk that goes into each and every product offering. Today, the charming Canus goat illustration smiles back at customers from the shelves of many major mass retail and drug store chains, supermarkets and specialty stores throughout North America. Canus offers several entire lines all made with farm fresh goat’s milk including its Li’l Goat’s Milk line for children’s sensitive skin.
In 2013, Canus introduces its Caprina line to the US and will be rolling it out nationwide. Many of its offerings include the same great fragrances derived from natural, essential oils like Lavender, Olive Oil & Wheat Protein and its ever-popular Original fragrance. In addition, a new Shea Butter formula known for its excellent hydrating and emollient properties is sure to become a fast favorite. Canus products were an instant hit, widely recognized by consumers for their excellent quality-price value. Their commercial success soon turned into critical triumph as well:
Canus co-founder Andrée Falardeau was named “Entrepreneure active à l'international” global female entrepreneur of the year in Fall 2002 by the Quebec Business Women’s Network.
In April 2003, Canus Body Butter was voted Best New Non-Food Product at the 10th annual Organic Products Europe/Natural Products Europe Show in London.
In June 2003, Canus products and Li'l Goat products were both named Best of the Best New Product Line at the NACDS National Association of Chain Drug Stores Marketplace Conference in San Diego.
In August 2003, Canus Li'l Goat products and Canus Body Butter make the Progressive Grocer Magazine Editors’ Pick as best new products for 2002-2003.
In September 2003, the Canus Li'l Goat product line was named Best New Product at the Natural Products Expo East in Washington, DC
In May 2004, Canus earns two awards at the Alpha competition in Ville St-Laurent, Quebec:
• Top prize in the Manufacturer category
• Special grand jury prize for top SME (small and medium sized enterprise)
• The company and its products have also been featured in several trade publications as well as newspapers and magazines.
